Bhadrak: At least three cow vigilantes sustained serious injuries in a fight with the cattle smugglers at National Highway 16 near Ranital in the district on Wednesday.
Acting on reliable inputs about cattle trafficking, a team of cow vigilantes under the banner of Go Surakhya Samiti tried to intercept the trucks, in which around 200 cattle were being transported illegally. When the smugglers did not stop their vehicle, the team chased the vehicle and informed the same to the police.
However, the smugglers launched attacks on the vigilantes with sharp edged weapons, sticks and stones. Following this, the three persons sustained serious injuries.
They were rescued and admitted to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital in critical conditions.
