A pall of grief has descended on Kheramuta village under Lanjiberna outpost in Rajgangpur block after a youth died in a tragic accident just a day before his wedding.
The deceased, identified as Binod Majhi, climbed a jamun tree near his house on Tuesday morning to cut branches in preparation for the marriage rituals. While cutting a branch, it accidentally fell on a nearby 11 KV electric line, causing the tree to become electrified. Binod was instantly electrocuted and died on the spot.
His body remained stuck on the tree until police and ODRAF personnel arrived. The team disconnected the power supply, retrieved the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.
The incident has left the family and villagers devastated. Preparations for the wedding turned into mourning, with relatives and friends struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss.
Lanjiberna outpost officer Priti Ranjan Parida said an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances of the accident.
Locals expressed shock, noting that the tragedy occurred at a time when the family was preparing for a joyous occasion. The village remains under a heavy shadow of sorrow.
