Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced plans to establish the company’s first AI hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, describing it as a “landmark development.” The $15 billion investment over the next five years will make the hub Google’s largest AI facility outside the United States.
The hub will feature gigawatt-scale computing capacity, a new international subsea gateway, and large-scale energy infrastructure. According to Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, it will serve as a global center for AI innovation, powering AI-driven solutions across India, Asia, and beyond.
Government and Industry Support
The project aligns with India’s vision for a technologically advanced nation by 2047. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and other officials highlighted its potential to boost skill development, create up to 1.8 lakh jobs, and strengthen India’s digital economy.
The initiative, part of the AI City Vizag project, includes a 1 GW hyperscale data center campus with clean energy integration and innovation ecosystems, positioning Visakhapatnam as a key hub in India’s AI-powered future.
