A tragic accident occurred at Godabhanga Ghat in Mayurbhanj district, where a gas cylinder-laden truck collided with a car, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries.
The victims, travelling from Salapada village in Keonjhar district, were heading to Thakurmunda block to purchase Ayurvedic medicine when the truck suddenly crashed into their vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Sadly, 62-year-old Jyotsnarani Mohapatra lost her life at the accident site. Her granddaughter, Susmita Mishra (23), suffered a fractured shoulder, while Rabi Narayan Mohapatra (30) sustained serious chest and head injuries. Other passengers, including Manaswini Dash (26) and Biswajayini Dash, were also injured but are reportedly in stable condition.
Emergency responders, including the Thakurmunda Fire Brigade and Mahuldiha Police, arrived at the scene and launched an investigation. The injured victims were transported to the Anandapur Sub-Divisional Hospital for medical treatment. Authorities are working to locate the absconding truck driver.
