A gas cylinder explosion in a home at Pathar Pratima, South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, claimed the lives of seven people, including four children and two women.
The explosion, which occurred on Monday around 9 PM in Dholaghat village, is believed to have been intensified by firecrackers stored inside the house.
According to Superintendent Koteswara Rao of the Sunderban Police District, all seven bodies have been recovered, and one injured woman was rescued and admitted to the hospital. Authorities suspect that two gas cylinders inside the house exploded, setting off a chain reaction with the firecrackers.
In a separate incident in Varanasi, a gas cylinder explosion caused a fire at a bustling night market near the Cantt railway station. Although the fire damaged multiple shops, no injuries were reported.
The authorities are investigating both incidents to ensure safety measures are enforced, and the victims’ families are receiving support.
