A shocking case of gang rape involving two minor sisters, aged 14 and 11, has rocked Ganjam district in Odisha, exposing the deteriorating law and order situation in the region.
The incident, which occurred under the Golanthara police station jurisdiction in Berhampur, has led to the arrest of four accused individuals: K. Sai (21), K. Shiva (21), J. Gareya (21), and N. Srinu (22). The police have seized a motorcycle and mobile phones used by the perpetrators, with K. Sai, the alleged mastermind, identified as the village head’s son.
According to police reports, the victims’ mother had visited her father’s village for an event, accompanied by her daughters. On June 3, K. Sai allegedly lured the 14-year-old girl to a secluded location, where he and his three accomplices raped her. The younger sister, aged 11, went looking for her and witnessed the horrific scene. Threatened by the accused, the sisters hid on a rooftop that night. The following day, June 4, the perpetrators promised to drop the girls back to their village but instead raped them again near Chhatrapur before abandoning them near Ganjam.
The mother, distressed by her daughters’ absence, located them and learned of the ordeal. After confronting the village head, who dismissed the matter, she filed a complaint with the Golanthara police. The police registered a case under the POCSO Act (Case No. 240/25), conducted medical examinations of both the victims and the accused, and presented the victims before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
The accused, who attempted to flee to Visakhapatnam, were apprehended and forwarded to court. The victims’ statements are set to be recorded on Saturday, as confirmed by Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M. during a press conference.
