The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has called on leading streaming platforms, including Netflix, Prime Video, and JioHotstar, to cease streaming Turkish television shows and films.
The organisation cited Turkey’s unwavering support for Pakistan, particularly on contentious issues like Kashmir, as the primary reason behind this appeal.
According to FWICE’s official statement, Turkish productions should not be promoted in India due to the country’s diplomatic stance against India’s sovereignty. They urged the Indian Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to take swift action to restrict the distribution of Turkish entertainment content.
Popular Turkish series such as Binbir Gece, As the Crow Flies, and Ethos have gained a loyal following in India. However, FWICE believes that allowing Turkish media on Indian OTT platforms undermines national interests and the integrity of India’s entertainment industry. The move aligns with recent calls by Indian travel platforms, including EaseMyTrip and Ixigo, which have issued advisories against visiting Turkey.
With increasing tensions, FWICE hopes to send a strong message globally while reinforcing support for India’s domestic content creators. Whether platforms will comply or push back against this request remains to be seen.
