Four Naxalites—including a couple from Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-hit Kondagaon district —with a combined bounty of Rs 22 lakh, surrendered before the police.
The surrender took place at the Superintendent of Police’s office under the state’s Naxal Eradication and Rehabilitation Policy.
Among those who surrendered were Lakshman Koram alias Junnu (Rs 8 lakh bounty), Maddo alias Zarina (Rs 5 lakh), Panduram (Rs 1 lakh), and Sakharam (Rs 8 lakh). These individuals were previously active in regions including Kondagaon, Kanker, Bastar, Dantewada, and Manpur Mohla, and were involved in serious crimes such as murder, looting, arson, and attacks on security forces.
The couple, Lakshman and Zarina, cited the desire for a peaceful family life and the appeal of the government’s rehabilitation incentives as key reasons for their surrender. Each surrendered Naxalite received ₹50,000 as part of the state’s reintegration support.
Officials emphasised that the Chhattisgarh government’s policy aims to encourage misguided youth to return to the fold of society and live a dignified life. The surrender is seen as a positive step toward restoring peace and stability in the region.
