A Special Vigilance Court in Cuttack has handed down a two-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to Swayambhu Prasad Mishra, the ex-Deputy Commissioner of Excise for the Northern Division in Sambalpur, for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, in violation of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
In addition to the prison sentence, Mishra has been fined ₹1 lakh.
The Odisha Vigilance had previously indicted Mishra under Sections 13(2) and 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Post-conviction, the Vigilance Department is set to petition the appropriate authority to commence procedures for the cessation of Mishra’s pension.
