Bhubaneswar: Former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Bijay Mohanty died on Sunday afternoon at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Bijay Mohanty, who served as an MLA from the Bhubaneswar Central constituency, was found unresponsive at a guest house before being taken to the hospital. However, authorities at the state-owned hospital declared him brought dead upon arrival.
The post-mortem examination will be conducted as per procedural requirements to ascertain the cause of death, medical authorities ascertained.
An influential politician, he was elected twice on a BJD ticket, securing victories in the 2009 and 2014 state elections.
