Bhubaneswar: Flight services from the proposed Sri Jagannath International Airport in Puri will commence by 2022 or 2023, informed Commerce & Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera today.
Talking to the media persons, the Minister said, the process of identifying land for the proposed airport has already started. If everything goes as planned, the flight services from Puri will commence by 2022 or 23.
Besides, the plan is being made to upgrade the airstrips in all 13 undivided districts of Odisha, added the Minister.
On January 1 this year, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged him to ask the ministry of civil aviation to set up an international airport in Puri.
A team of officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) conducted a pre-feasibility study in the temple town on Thursday.
The central team had also inspected a 1,000-acre land, about 5 km from the Jagannath Temple, for the construction of the proposed airport.
