Odisha government today announced an ambitious plan to establish five new National Cadet Corps (NCC) girls’ battalions as part of a comprehensive state NCC expansion initiative.
The directive, issued by Suryabanshi Suraj, Minister of State for Higher Education, Sports & Youth Services, calls for increased participation of girl students and aims to elevate the current cadet strength from 63,000 to 90,000.
In a letter dated today, the Minister instructed Col. Satyabrata Swain, Director of NCC Odisha, to submit a detailed proposal outlining district-wise deployment, infrastructure needs, manpower, training logistics, and a rollout timeline.
This move aligns with the Government of India’s vision to empower youth through discipline, leadership, and nation-building, while addressing the growing demand from educational institutions for wider NCC coverage.
The expansion will particularly focus on enhancing opportunities for female students, ensuring their active involvement in NCC activities. The government has committed to providing full support for the establishment and maintenance of these battalions, marking a significant step toward gender inclusivity in the state’s youth development programs.
This initiative is expected to foster skill development and prepare young leaders for contributing to national growth. Further details on implementation will be finalised based on the NCC Directorate’s comprehensive proposal.
