In a swift development, Rourkela police have arrested five suspects in connection with the brutal stabbing death of 30-year-old tea stall owner Abinash Yadav near the city’s railway station.
The incident, which occurred on the night of February 6, 2026, has sent shockwaves through the local community.
According to police reports, Yadav was attacked by a group of masked assailants while he was near his tea stall in the Plant Site police station area. Eyewitnesses described a heated verbal altercation that quickly escalated into a violent assault, with the attackers using sharp weapons to stab Yadav multiple times.
The victim, a resident of Gopabandhupali slum, lived with his brother and was reportedly scheduled to get married later in the year, adding a tragic layer to the loss.
Investigators believe the motive traces back to a prior dispute during an idol immersion festival, a common source of localised vendettas in the region’s urban fringes.
