The Pattangi block in Koraput district—known for its agrarian population—is witnessing growing unrest due to a severe shortage of fertilizers.
At the Pottangi LAMP (Large Area Multi-Purpose Cooperative) center, farmers have been queuing up for the past 2 to 3 weeks in hopes of acquiring essential fertilizers, only to return home disappointed and empty-handed.
With nearly 90% of the local population dependent on agriculture, the demand for fertilizers is critical. Despite repeated visits and long waits, farmers are unable to procure the required supplies. Officials at the LAMP center have cited non-arrival of stock as the reason, leaving the farming community in a state of uncertainty and frustration.
The delay has forced many farmers to abandon personal and professional commitments, making daily trips to the center in vain. As the planting season progresses and weather conditions remain favorable, the urgency for fertilizer distribution has intensified. Local residents are now demanding immediate action from the administration, which they accuse of failing to meet the basic agricultural needs of the region.
The situation has sparked widespread concern, with questions being raised about when and how the administration plans to resolve the crisis and support the struggling farmers.
