New Delhi: Finally, the tussle between the Central government and agitating farmers comes to an end as Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Friday that the Centre will repeal the three controversial laws which were passed in Parliament in September last year.
He said the three contentious laws will be repealed during this month’s Parliament session.
Apologising to the country, PM Modi said that the government has failed to convince a section of farmers over the farm laws.
In an address to the nation, the Prime Minister said, “Today, while apologising to the countrymen, I want to say with a sincere and pure heart that perhaps there must have been some deficiency in our efforts, due to which we could not explain the truth like the light of the lamp to some farmers.”
“When I became PM in 2014, we (govt) prioritised farmers’ welfare & development… Many people are unaware of the truth that 80/100 are small-scale farmers who have less than 2 hectares of land and are over 10 crores in population. This piece of land is their survival,” said, PM Modi
“Our farm laws are meant to strengthen the small farmers. We had a discussion in the Parliament over farm laws. Despite several attempts to explain the benefits to the farmers, we have failed. On the occasion of Guru Parav, the government has decided to repeal the three farm laws,” Modi added.
