The Odisha Excise Department seized a significant amount of illicit alcohol and arrested five individuals involved in underground supply chains.

The crackdown took place across several locations in the capital, disrupting what officials suspect was a well-organised racket.

The raids were conducted in key hotspots, including Haladipadia Basti, Balianta, and Phuleswari Basti, known for illegal storage and distribution of alcohol. Authorities confiscated cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and country-made spirits intended for black-market sales, along with vehicles used in the operation.

Officials intensified their vigilance ahead of the festive season, when illegal liquor distribution typically surges. Investigations are ongoing to trace the origins of the seized stock and dismantle broader networks. The Excise Department urged the public to report suspicious activities to help curb the illicit liquor trade.
