New Delhi: The Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha is set to convene its first meeting on Thursday to address the “cash for query” accusation lodged against TMC MP Mahua Moitra.
The Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha on Thursday agreed that the allegations against TMC MP Mahua Moitra in the ‘cash-for-query’ are “very serious,” sources said.
“Oral Evidence of Shri Jai Anant Dehadrai, Advocate in respect of complaint dated 15 October 2023 given by Dr Nishikant Dubey, MP against Smt. Mahua Moitra, MP for alleged direct involvement in cash for query in Parliament. Oral evidence of Dr Nishikant Dubey, MP, in respect of complaint dated 15 October 2023 given by him against Smt. Mahua Moitra, MP for alleged direct involvement in cash for query in Parliament,” the panel’s schedule for Thursday said.
“Parliament Ethics Committee agrees that the allegations against TMC MP Mahua Moitra are very serious and the committee will consider them seriously,” sources added.
Meanwhile, the Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha will call Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on October 31, over the cash-for-query allegations against her, the Chairman of Parliament Ethics Committee Vinod Sonkar said on Thursday.
“The two people who were summoned today – the lawyer and Nishikant Dubey – were heard attentively. After that, it was decided that Mahua Moitra would be called on October 31. She will come and present her part. The committee has also decided that the IT Ministry and MHA will be sent letters to make her details available,” Vinod Sonkar said.
Dubey has asserted that the advocate, who was previously associated with Moitra before their disagreement, has presented undeniable evidence of monetary transactions involving her and businessman Darshan Hiranandani. This evidence is purportedly linked to their efforts to target the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
