Eminent Ollywood film producer and businessman Rabindra Mohan Sahoo passed away in Bhubaneswar at the age of 81.
He breathed his last at a private hospital where he had been undergoing treatment for a prolonged illness. His eldest son Ranjit Sahoo confirmed the news of his demise.
Rabindra Mohan Sahoo, remembered as a pioneering producer, distributor, and social worker, contributed immensely to Odia cinema. His first production, Ei Ta Dunia, released in 1987 under the Sri Baladevjiew Productions banner, became a superhit. Directed by Mohammed Mohasin, the film featured stalwarts like Bijay Mohanty, Uttam Mohanty, Ajit Das, Mihir Das, Anita Das, Aparajita, and Akshay Mohanty as music director.
Following its success, Sahoo produced several notable films, including Bastraharan, Bou Heba Emiti, Pacheri Uthila Majhi Duaru, Naga Panchami, Mani Nageswari, Sasu Hatakadi Bhauja Bedi, Kulanandana, Rasika Nagara, and Aalo Mora Kandhei. He also worked as an actor, storyteller, and lyricist, showcasing his versatility in the industry.
Beyond cinema, Sahoo engaged in politics and public service. He contested elections as a BJP candidate from the Kendrapara constituency and earlier served as a councillor in the Kendrapara Municipality. He also held the position of president at Kendrapara Saraswati Sishu Vidyamandir.
His passing has cast a shadow of grief across Ollywood and Kendrapara. Colleagues, fans, and the film fraternity mourn the loss of a visionary whose contributions shaped Odia cinema. Rabindra Mohan Sahoo leaves behind his wife, five sons, and a daughter. His legacy will remain etched in the cultural memory of Odisha.
