Sambalpur witnessed tragedy today when an elephant attacked two villagers near Halipali forest. The incident claimed one life and left another critically injured.
According to reports, Panchanan Naik, 40, of Halipali village, died on the spot after the elephant charged at him. Sukanti Pradhan of Dunguripara suffered serious injuries and was rushed to VIMSAR, Burla, for treatment.
The attack occurred while the victims were collecting firewood in the forest. Suddenly, the elephant appeared and attacked them, causing panic in the area.
Forest officials reached the site soon after and began an investigation. They confirmed that the victims had entered the forest for firewood collection when the elephant struck.
