Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has provided substantial financial support to electric vehicle (EV) owners, amounting to over Rs 154 crore in subsidies since the 2022-23 financial year. This initiative, led by Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, aims to promote the adoption of EVs across the state.
Since the subsidy program began in September 2021, there has been a notable increase in EV registrations. In the fiscal year 2022-23, the government disbursed Rs 8.83 crore in subsidies, which significantly rose to Rs 57.21 crore in 2023-24. As of August 2024, subsidies have already been distributed for 38,766 EVs registered in the state.
The subsidy scheme offers up to Rs 20,000 for two-wheelers and Rs 30,000 for three-wheelers, encouraging more residents to switch to environmentally friendly transportation options12.
