An Eight-Year-Old Girl Bhumika Santa lost her life after an abandoned house in which she was playing, collapsed in Painrichachara village under Umerkote block, Nabarangpur district.
Two other girls Six-year-old Sati Santa and four-year-old Elisha Santa sustained serious injuries.
As per reports, three girls were playing inside when the roof suddenly caved in. Another child narrowly escaped the collapse.
Locals rushed the injured children to Umerkote Sub-Divisional Hospital. Doctors declared Bhumika Santa dead upon arrival. Sati and Elisha received primary treatment at the hospital. Both were later shifted to Nabarangpur District Health Centre. Doctors continue to monitor their condition closely.
The children belonged to the family of Santha and Sandhar Santa. They were playing near their home when the incident occurred. Villagers expressed grief and demanded safety checks on abandoned structures. Local authorities visited the site and assured support to the family. The incident raised concerns about neglected buildings in rural areas.
The collapse of the abandoned house in Painrichara village underscores the urgent need for structural safety checks in rural areas. Authorities must prioritize the identification and demolition of unsafe buildings to prevent future tragedies and protect vulnerable communities.
