In the aftermath of the tragic Nergunji train derailment, the East Coast Railway has announced compensation for victims.
- Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased.
- Rs 2.5 lakh for severely injured passengers.
- Rs 50,000 for passengers with minor injuries.
The derailment of the Kamakhya Express occurred when 11 coaches went off track near Nergunji station. Tragically, one passenger, Shubhankar Ray from West Bengal, lost his life, and 16 others were injured. Of those injured, 14 received primary treatment and were discharged, while two remain in specialized care.
Following the incident, train services were disrupted and immediate repairs were undertaken. Investigations led by the Commissioner of Railway Safety are ongoing to identify the root causes of the derailment. The trains on affected routes resumed operations on Monday morning.
