External Affairs Minister Jaishankar on Wednesday inaugurated the Mediclinic project (Jan Aushadi Kendra) at Grand Bois in Mauritius, supported by an Indian grant, describing it as the “latest symbol of our friendship.”
At the project’s inauguration, Jaishankar remarked that the initiative would offer secondary healthcare to 16,000 residents of the Grand Bois area.
He highlighted that India’s current partnership is enhancing Mauritius’s welfare and affirmed India’s enduring commitment.
Jaishankar also praised Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jagnauth for the partnership.
“I applaud the Prime Minister for this initiative, for the collaboration tied to us…which will significantly improve the lives of the ordinary citizens of this country,” he stated.
Reflecting on other Indian projects in Mauritius, Jaishankar noted they symbolize the strong ties between the two nations.
“The major projects we’ve undertaken in Mauritius truly reflect our fondness, our bond, our familial connections, and each one of you is in some way linked to and has benefited from them…,” he expressed.
He mentioned that the current Indian government, led by PM Narendra Modi, is dedicated to policies focused on the populace.

Earlier, Jaishankar met with former Mauritian Prime Minister Paul Berenger to discuss current global matters. He acknowledged Berenger’s support for the India-Mauritius relationship.
Jaishankar arrived in Mauritius on Tuesday for a two-day state visit, during which he expressed gratitude to Mauritius Foreign Minister Maneesh Gobin for his warm welcome and stated that he looked forward to productive engagements to take forward the special relationship between the two nations.
