In a tragic incident in Khutubanbhera village under the jurisdiction of Dharambandha police station in Nuapada, Odisha, a 44-year-old man, Santosh Kumar, allegedly killed his second wife, Tirita Kumari, aged 40, by attacking her with an axe.
The brutal assault took place in the canal area of the village, and Tirita succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The couple, who relied on migrant labour to support their family, leaves behind four children—one son and three daughters—now facing an uncertain future.
According to locals, Santosh was intoxicated at the time of the attack, which they claim led to this horrific act. Following the murder, Santosh attempted to flee but was apprehended by villagers who promptly informed the Dharambandha police.
The police have arrested the accused and seized the body for a post-mortem examination. The incident has left the community in shock, with villagers now demanding government assistance for the four children left destitute by their mother’s death.
The senseless act of violence has sparked outrage, with locals pointing to alcohol abuse as a contributing factor. Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the crime, and the children’s welfare remains a pressing concern for the community.
