In a major relief for the Congress party ahead of its high-profile “Sambhidhan Bachao” rally led by Rahul Gandhi, the Odisha Driver Mahasangha has announced that it will not hinder vehicles carrying Congress leaders and supporters to the event.
This development follows a direct appeal by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Bhakta Charan Das and several party MLAs, who urged the Mahasangh to cooperate for the successful organisation of the rally.
Responding positively, Mahasangh president Prashant Menduli issued a statewide call for striking drivers to allow unhindered movement of Congress vehicles across Odisha.
Earlier, the Mahasangh had indicated its intent not to obstruct Congress-bound vehicles, and now the statement formalises that assurance.
In a reciprocal gesture, Bhakta Charan Das affirmed Congress’s support for the drivers’ ongoing movement at both the block and district levels.
The gesture has been lauded as a sign of mutual respect between civil society stakeholders and political organisations, highlighting the importance of peaceful cooperation in democratic expression.
