Odisha Women and Child Development Department has expressed concern over the inadequate implementation of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act) across various institutions.

In response, the department has issued directives to ensure stricter compliance and foster greater awareness among employees and students in workplaces and educational institutions.

The department emphasised that awareness about the POSH Act must extend beyond women and girls to include men and boys, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the law. To achieve this, it has mandated the installation of “Do’s and Don’ts” boards in visible locations across offices, schools, colleges, and other establishments. These boards will clearly outline the guidelines for preventing workplace sexual harassment as per the POSH Act.

In a letter issued by Additional Secretary Jyotishankar Mohapatra, addressed to additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries, commissioner-cum-secretaries, district collectors, municipal commissioners, and regional development commissioners, the department underscored the need for robust enforcement.

The letter highlighted that many institutions fall short in effectively implementing the POSH Act, urging stakeholders to prioritise awareness and compliance.

The initiative aims to create a safer and more inclusive environment by educating all stakeholders about their responsibilities under the law.
