A sudden outbreak of diarrhoea in Nangalbod village under Sinapali block of Nuapada district has triggered a public health alert.
Reports confirm 16 villagers have fallen ill, including several school children. Six are in critical condition and have received emergency intervention.
Two critical patients have been transferred to the Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital, while the remaining have been admitted to the Sinapali Community Health Centre. The illness—marked by persistent vomiting and loose motion—has spread across three hamlets over the past three days.
Medical teams have deployed ambulances and begun door-to-door awareness campaigns. Free medicine distribution is underway, led by Sinapali CHC staff. Dr Prateep Panda from the CHC stated that proactive measures have been taken to control the situation.
Health officials urge locals to consume safe drinking water and maintain hygiene to prevent further escalation.
