A van carrying devotees to a religious program in Khariguda veered off the road near Jarau Ghat in Gajapati district, Odisha, plunging 10 feet down a slope after losing balance.
More than 15 people were injured, including women and children, with several in critical condition. The victims, travelling from Sorada in Ganjam district, were rushed to MKCG Hospital in Berhampur for treatment. Police have launched an investigation into the cause, amid concerns over overloading and poor infrastructure in the region’s hilly terrains.
