New Delhi: In the early hours of Monday, February 17, 2025, a 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck Delhi and its surrounding regions, causing significant tremors that prompted residents to evacuate buildings in alarm. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that the quake occurred at 5:36 a.m., with its epicenter located at a latitude of 28.59°N and longitude of 77.16°E, and a shallow depth of 5 kilometers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the situation, urging residents to remain calm and adhere to safety protocols. He emphasized the importance of staying alert for potential aftershocks and assured that authorities are closely monitoring developments.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also expressed concern, stating, “I pray for the safety of everyone.”
While the tremors were widely felt across the National Capital Region (NCR), including areas such as Noida, Gurugram, and Indirapuram, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or significant structural damage. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and follow official guidelines to ensure safety in the event of aftershocks.
Delhi-NCR is situated in Seismic Zone IV, indicating a high susceptibility to earthquakes. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
