Delhi’s outgoing Chief Minister and AAP candidate Atishi, who won the Kalkaji constituency by more than 3,500 votes against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri, has submitted her resignation to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena at Raj Niwas in Civil Lines.

As the votes for the Delhi Assembly elections were counted, it became clear that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was on track for victory. AAP leader Atishi acknowledged the outcome as a “setback” but reaffirmed her party’s commitment to opposing the BJP.

“First and foremost, I want to thank the people of Delhi and our dedicated party workers who stood firm. We accept the mandate. The fight against BJP’s dictatorship and hooliganism will continue. This is a setback, but AAP’s struggle for the people of Delhi and the country will persist,” Atishi told reporters.

She also expressed gratitude to her supporters, stating, “I am thankful to those who placed their trust in me. I appreciate my team, which overcame challenges to convey our message to the public. Although I have won my seat, this is not a moment for celebration—it is a time to continue the fight.”

Atishi emphasized that AAP has always stood against injustice and will continue to do so. “Yes, this may be one step back, but AAP will keep fighting,” she said.

Meanwhile, the BJP is poised to make a comeback in Delhi after more than 26 years, marking a significant defeat for AAP in the national capital. This victory represents another important expansion of the party’s presence across the country.
