Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to Visit Jammu and Kashmir Today, Days After Ceasefire With Pakistan

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to visit Jammu and Kashmir today, five days after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire following a fierce four-day military confrontation. This marks Singh’s first visit to the region since India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 and a ceasefire understanding was reached on May 10.

Jammu and Kashmir was among the worst-affected areas during the escalation, which involved artillery exchanges, aerial strikes, and drone incursions along the Line of Control (LoC) and in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

During his visit, Singh is expected to meet with soldiers deployed in Srinagar and assess the ground situation alongside J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, according to ANI reports.

The visit follows a high-level national security review chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this week. The meeting was attended by key figures including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, the chiefs of the three armed services, and the Foreign Secretary.

Singh recently inaugurated the BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility Centre in Lucknow, calling it a major boost for India’s push toward ‘aatma-nirbharta’ (self-reliance) in defence manufacturing. The facility, a key project under the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, is expected to generate over 1,500 jobs.

At the event, Singh praised India’s armed forces for their response to the Pahalgam terror attack and reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism.

“India has responded decisively to terrorism time and again—be it the Uri surgical strike, the Balakot air strike, or now Operation Sindoor after the Pahalgam massacre,” Singh said. “Our armed forces have once again demonstrated unmatched courage and strategic capability.”

Singh’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir is seen as both a morale booster for troops and a strategic signal reaffirming India’s commitment to securing its borders amid evolving regional threats.
