Deepika Padukone’s exit from the highly anticipated sequel to Kalki 2898 AD created a stir online. Fans noticed that circulating videos showed her name missing from the film’s end credits.
Kalki 2898 AD starred Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone. She played SUM-80, a pregnant woman pursued by bounty hunter Prabhas and protected by Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan). The film combined dystopian sci-fi with mythological fantasy and grossed over ₹1,000 crore.
Clarification on OTT Credits
Despite social media posts claiming her credit was removed, official OTT versions on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video confirm that Deepika’s name is still listed in the end credits, just below Amitabh Bachchan.
Reason for Deepika’s Exit
Last month, Vyjayanthi Movies confirmed that Deepika would not be part of the sequel. Reports indicated that her departure was due to requests for revised working conditions, including higher remuneration and shorter shifts.
This is her second recent high-profile exit after leaving Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit.
Fan Reactions
Fans expressed disappointment and frustration on social media. Many criticized the film’s makers as “petty and unprofessional” for the perceived omission.
Upcoming Projects
Deepika Padukone is currently working with Shah Rukh Khan in King and alongside Allu Arjun in a collaboration with director Atlee. The release date for the Kalki 2898 AD sequel and her replacement has not yet been announced.
