A violent confrontation over farmland in Tungughat village under Bolangir Sadar police station has left one person dead and eight others injured, according to local authorities.
The clash erupted between two groups embroiled in a long-standing land dispute, turning the village road into a battleground.
Eyewitnesses reported that the altercation quickly escalated into a physical brawl, with both sides engaging in brutal violence. A video of the incident has since gone viral, capturing the chaos and panic among villagers.
Police responded swiftly, arresting five individuals involved in the clash. Three others, currently receiving treatment at Bhimbhoi Medical College and Hospital, are expected to be taken into custody once their condition stabilizes. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Saroj Kumar Upadhyay confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend any additional suspects.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns over unresolved land disputes in rural Odisha and the urgent need for conflict resolution mechanisms to prevent such tragedies.
