Jagatsinghpur Police intercepted an armed dacoity gang on the night of October 8–9, 2025, during a jungle patrol near River Mahandai under Krushnanandapur Police Station.
The police team acted on a tip-off and caught four gang members at the crime spot. One suspect escaped into the jungle.
The arrested include Chinmaya Tarei @ Chinku (involved in 33 cases), Sk Rahimuddin @ Sk Karim (5 cases), Radheshyam Das @ Bhaba (2 cases), and Subrat Das.
Officers recovered a gold necklace, three swords, an iron rod, a Yamaha FZ bike, mobile phones, chili powder packets, face-covering napkins, beer bottles, and other incriminating items.
The accused confessed to planning a highway dacoity targeting night vehicles on State Highway-12. They admitted to previous robberies across Paradeep, Kujanga, Tirtol, Raghunathpur, and Jagatsinghpur. The gang aimed to fund bail for jailed members and cover daily expenses.
Chiku Tarei, the gang leader, had served nine months in jail before securing bail in 2025. He reassembled the gang and resumed criminal activities. Police also arrested Sk Rahimuddin, a long-absconding associate of Chiku.
Jagatsinghpur Police linked the gang to multiple property offences. Officers reaffirmed their commitment to public safety and pledged continued action against hardened criminals. The department extended festive greetings for Laxmi Puja, Diwali, and Kali Puja, promising quality service and a crime-free environment.
