Sonepur: Intensifying crackdown on anti-social elements, Sonepur Police on Friday claimed to have busted a 5-member dacoit gang involved in many cases of theft, loot and armed robberies in the district.
The police swung into action after the dacoit gang gained notoriety in the Sadar area of Sonepur district and several complaints were lodged in this regard.
Yesterday, the police managed to apprehend all five members of the dacoit gang and seized Rs. 8,200 in cash, five mobile phones, one white colour hatchback car (TATA Altroz), hockey sticks, and plastic pipes from them.
The arrested persons have been identified as Sashank Mishra (39) of Patabhadi area of the city, Purushottam Suna (29) of Baljhuri village, Sunil Gadiya (26) of Kalinga Nagar in Sonepur town, Syed Nasib Alli (24) of Majhipada and Indrajit Sahu (24) of Patabhadi area, all of them belong to Sonepur police station area, the police informed in a press meet today.
According to police, one Manoj Kumar Purohit was robbed of cash and valuables by some miscreants near Hardkhol on August 1. Following the lead, the police traced the dacoits and nabbed all of them.
As these accused are involved in many loot cases in different areas of the district, they will be brought on remand for further investigation, said Sonepur SP Amresh Kumar Panda. SDPO Pushpanjali Ningi and Sadar PS IIC Krushna Chandra Meher were also present at the press meet.
