Cuttack: Purighat Police here have arrested two persons and recovered stolen gold biscuits, worth over Rs 36 lakh from their possession.
The accused persons, identified as Jitendra Sahoo (25) and Rajkishore Sahoo (40), were arrested after one Santosh Kumar Rana, owner of jewellery shop at Remuna in Balasore diatrict, lodged a complaint with the police.
According to reports, Rajkishore is a broker and used to supply gold ornaments to the compliant after procuring the same from different merchants and takes back old ornaments from the complaints in return. On March 9, the complaint along with one of his friend arrived at Cuttack with a fine gold tablet weighing 800.300 gram in order to take the new gold ornaments of equal value from the accused.
On the same day, about 11 AM, Rajkishore along with his co-accused Jitendra took the complaint to Nakodia hall marking centre located at Jaunluapatty under Purighat Station. Both the accused verified the fine gold tablet and assured to supply new gold ornaments with them.
Later, the accused took the gold tablet from the complaint and with a plea to get it tested to supply the new gold ornaments. absconded from the spot.
On basis of the plaint, police registered a case and launched a probe into the matter.
