Cuttack: A man, sleeping on a footpath, was allegedly hacked to death by some unidentified miscreants at the College Square area here late last night. The deceased has been identified as Sanatan Das of Jagatsinghpur.
A woman also sustained critical injuries after being attacked by the miscreants. She is reportedly undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition.
On being informed about the incident, a team of police led by Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pratik Singh reached the spot and launched a probe into the incident.
Sources said, Das was a day labourer and had been staying in the footpath for some days. The woman, who had also left her home following an altercation with husband, was leaving with Das in the footpath.
While the exact cause behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the husband of the woman could have murdered Das.
