The curfew imposed in Cuttack city has been lifted after remaining peaceful for the past 36 hours.
The decision comes as a relief to residents, following violent clashes during a Durga Puja idol immersion procession that left many people injured and prompted the arrest of eight individuals.
Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner S. Devdutt Singh confirmed the absence of any untoward incidents, marking a significant step toward restoring normalcy.
The unrest, which erupted on Sunday in the Dargah Bazaar area over disagreements regarding loud music during the procession, escalated into stone-pelting and attacks on police personnel. In response, authorities imposed a 36-hour curfew across 13 police station jurisdictions starting at 10 PM on Sunday, alongside a temporary suspension of internet and social media services to prevent the spread of rumors.
While markets have reopened and traffic is gradually picking up, approximately 50 platoons of police remain deployed across key areas to maintain security. Internet and social media restrictions, however, continue as a precautionary measure until the situation stabilizes fully.
Authorities have imposed restrictions on entry into Cuttack, allowing only essential workers and patients traveling to SCB Medical College and Hospital.
As the city navigates this challenging period, officials remain vigilant to ensure lasting stability.
