London: Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo terminated his contract with the club with immediate effect on Tuesday, 22 November. The Premier League club released a statement stating that both parties had come to an agreement and club wished Ronaldo success in his future endeavours.
The Portugal captain, who is currently at Qatar, preparing for their World Cup opener, took to Twitter to give his own statement, stating that his love for Manchester United and the fans had not changed. One of club’s most prolific goalscorers, Ronaldo’s second tenure at the club was cut short by several controversies in the 2022/23 season, where he clashed with the manager, and at the end with the club.
“Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early,” Ronaldo said in his own statement.
“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future,” Ronaldo said.
