Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has busted a credit card scam and apprehended six persons in this connection in Bhubaneswar.
The accused have been identified as Prasanjit Dash (28), Pradeep Kumar Samantara (27), Mukesh Mantri, Biju Tripathy, Abdul Rahman and Rajesh Dash.
During the search operation, the police seized six mobile phones, 450 credit cards and debit cards, 50 chequebooks, 78 Pass books, money receipt generated from swipe machine, cash of Rs. 7,07,870 and six swipe machines from their possessions.
Based on a complaint filed by one Rakesh Kumar, the police investigated the matter and arrested the accused. As per Rakesh, he had opened one ICICI Bank account in Patrapada Branch and deposited Rs. 30,000. Later he came to know that one Credit card has been issued against him without his knowledge and consent. The outstanding dues of the Credit card was Rs. 1,40,000. Hence suspecting fraud against him, he reported the above report case at CC & EO PS, UPD Bhubaneswar.
During investigation, the police came to know that, the accused Prasanjit Dash used to collect the personal credentials of different persons to apply for Credit cards and fraudulently received those cards and used it. Simultaneously the accused Pradeep Samantara was the employee of ICICI bank, and he used to issue those Credit Cards knowing well that these have been applied in the name of Rakesh Kumar with fraudulent documents.
Accused Mukesh Mantri introduced Prasanjit Dash with Biju Tripathy, who used to collect hard cash by use of Credit card through POS counters like Hospitals, OMFED booths, Biju Tripathy collected all Credit Cards and approached different POS counters to encash the Credit cards. Abdul Rahman and Rajesh Dash, the hospital employees, who used to give cash to Biju Tripathy against the Credit Cards given by him.
