Nayagarh witnessed shock and grief on Thursday after a police constable was found dead under suspicious circumstances at the Reserve Police campus.
The deceased has been identified as Sunil Sethi, a 2023‑batch constable from Beruabari village under Odagaon police station.
According to police sources, Sunil’s body was discovered on the roof of the Reserve Police barracks during the early hours of the morning. Initial findings suggest he used his service revolver to end his life. However, the exact sequence of events remains unclear.
Senior officials, including Nayagarh Superintendent of Police S. Sushree and District Collector Madhumita Rath, rushed to the spot and reviewed the situation. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation, and a post‑mortem examination will determine the cause of death.
Family members have strongly contested the suicide theory. Sunil’s mother alleged that her son was mentally tortured and murdered, insisting he had no personal problems. She pointed out that Sunil had recently become engaged, questioning why he would take such an extreme step.
