A group of three advocates has filed a formal complaint demanding legal action against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray under the National Security Act (NSA).
The complaint accuses Thackeray of allegedly delivering hate speeches that incited communal tension and violence in Maharashtra.
The legal petition, written in Marathi and submitted by advocates Pankajkumar Mishra, Nityanand Sharma, and Aashish Rai, urges authorities to investigate Thackeray’s statements, register a case, and take stringent action to prevent further provocation of public unrest.
The complaint not only cites inflammatory remarks but also refers to alleged threats, attacks, and social humiliation reportedly perpetrated by MNS workers. The advocates emphasised the importance of constitutional guarantees — particularly those safeguarding life, liberty, equality, and freedom of expression — and appealed for measures to protect citizens from divisive rhetoric.
This legal move reignites debates around accountability for public figures and the threshold for speech classified as incitement. Authorities have yet to comment on whether they will act on the demands laid out in the complaint.
