Odisha is set to experience a return of severe winter conditions, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning that a cold wave is likely to grip the state from Christmas onwards.
According to the IMD, temperatures are expected to drop further following the exit of a western disturbance, while the inflow of dry, cold northwesterly winds may intensify the chill across many regions of the state.
Currently, southern and western Odisha are experiencing the coldest conditions. In the past 24 hours:
-
Koraput recorded the lowest temperature at 6.3°C
-
Daringbadi: 7°C
-
Nabarangpur: 8°C
-
Phulbani: 8.5°C
-
Jharsuguda: 9.4°C
-
Boudh: 9.5°C
The IMD has forecasted minimal changes in temperatures across Odisha over the coming week, indicating that residents should brace for continued cold conditions.
In addition to the cold wave, light to moderate fog is expected to persist across the state for the next five days, potentially affecting visibility. Citizens have been advised to take necessary precautions, including dressing warmly, using heaters safely, and monitoring weather updates.
