Bhubaneswar: Cold wave set to grip the state again post-Christmas, according to a forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.
Regional Meteorological Centre predicted rainfall for two days starting from Tuesday morning. Light to moderate rainfall is expected on December 24 in districts like Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara whereas on December 25, some districts in coastal Odisha are likely to witness rain.
“On December 25 also, light to moderate rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of coastal Odisha and dry weather to prevail thereafter,” stated IMD Bhubaneswar Regional Centre head Manorama Mohanty.
She also added that mercury is expected to plummet by as much as 2 to 4 degrees Celsius from December 26, bringing back cold wave conditions.
The incoming rainfall activity predicted for tomorrow and the day after is attributed to the formation of a low-pressure area that remains active over the west-central Bay of Bengal.
As a result, a trough line may form over Odisha. The entry of moisture-laden sea winds from the southeast direction into the state could lead to cloudy skies and rainfall in coastal and adjoining northern coastal areas.
