The Government of Odisha has announced an expansion of its mid-day meal program to include students in Classes IX and X from government and government-aided secondary schools.
The initiative, starting in the financial year 2025-26, is set to enhance students’ nutritional levels, increase enrollment, and improve attendance and retention rates.
The scheme, supported under the ‘Mukhyamantri Poshan Yojana,’ involves an annual estimated financial outlay of Rs 570.71 crore, which will be entirely borne by the state budget. The proposal has received approval from the Finance Department and the Planning and Convergence Department, further cementing its feasibility.
Additional Secretary Sri S. K. Mohapatra has issued directives to concerned officials and departments to facilitate the smooth implementation of the program. The School & Mass Education Department has also ensured that necessary updates are published on its official website.
This progressive step aligns with Odisha’s commitment to student welfare and emphasizes the importance of education and nutrition in shaping a better future.
