Bolangir district witnessed a shocking incident when a Class 9 girl was allegedly assaulted inside a school under Turekela police limits.
The case came to light after a video of the crime surfaced on social media, sparking outrage and immediate police action.
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s family, the assault took place on December 25, 2025, after tuition hours. The accused included five minor classmates and another youth. Police arrested all six individuals following the viral circulation of the video.
Northern Range IG Himanshu Lal visited Turekela to oversee the investigation. Bolangir SP Abhilash G also reached the spot and confirmed that the mobile phone used to record and circulate the video had been seized. Authorities stated that the accused will be produced before the Juvenile Court.
The incident has triggered widespread concern about the misuse of social media platforms by minors. IG Lal stressed the need for awareness among parents and communities, urging children to limit their exposure to apps such as Facebook and Instagram. He emphasised that unchecked use of social media often leads young people down dangerous paths.
Police have intensified their investigation and assured strict action against all those involved.
