The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has confirmed that it successfully prevented a major attack on the Uri Hydroelectric Power Projects (UHEP I & II) after Pakistan targeted the installations during Operation Sindoor earlier this year. Despite intense shelling and drone strikes near the Line of Control (LoC), CISF personnel ensured that the strategic assets remained fully secure.

Pakistan Targets Uri Hydropower Plant; Attack Foiled

According to a CISF statement issued on Tuesday, the attack occurred hours after the Indian Army launched Operation Sindoor on the intervening night of May 6–7, 2025. In response to India’s counter-terror operations targeting hideouts in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the Pakistan Army carried out heavy and indiscriminate shelling, endangering critical infrastructure and nearby civilian settlements.

Civilian quarters adjacent to the plant sustained minor damage, but the hydroelectric facility itself remained unharmed.

CISF Personnel Neutralise Drones, Conduct Civilian Evacuation

The CISF said its units, deployed just a few kilometres from the LoC, faced sustained gunfire while protecting the NHPC-run hydro projects.
Despite the escalation, the team displayed exceptional readiness and courage:

  • Drones targeting the installations were neutralised

  • Armoury stockpiles were secured by redistributing weapons to prevent destruction

  • Door-to-door evacuation was carried out for women, children, NHPC employees, and their families

  • Evacuations continued even as shells struck near residential complexes

A senior officer familiar with the situation said the Uri hydro projects were among the first sites targeted. “The troops were fully prepared. Not only were drones taken down, but a large-scale evacuation was carried out without any loss of life,” the officer said.

19 CISF Personnel Honoured With DG’s Disc

For their bravery and swift action, 19 CISF personnel stationed at UHEP I and II received the prestigious Director General’s Disc at a ceremony held at CISF headquarters in New Delhi. The force acknowledged the leadership of Commandant Ravi Yadav and the Deputy Commandant who immediately initiated protective measures in the face of heavy gunfire.

The CISF said the vigilance and professionalism of its personnel ensured that critical national assets remained completely safe during one of the most volatile phases along the LoC this year.
