England’s seasoned all-rounder Chris Woakes has announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket.
The 36-year-old made the announcement via social media, closing a chapter that spanned over a decade and included triumphs in both the 2019 ICC World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Woakes last represented England during the Oval Test against India, where he famously batted with his arm in a sling following a shoulder injury. Known for his swing bowling and dependable lower-order batting, Woakes played 62 Tests, claiming 192 wickets and scoring 2034 runs, including one century.
He debuted in 2011 in a T20I against Australia and quickly became a mainstay in England’s red-ball setup, especially in home conditions. His standout performance came during the 2019 World Cup, where he took 16 wickets in 11 matches, including crucial spells in the semifinal and final.
In his retirement note, Woakes expressed gratitude for fulfilling his dream of playing for England and shared his intent to continue playing county cricket and explore franchise opportunities.
His departure marks the end of an era for England cricket, as fans and teammates bid farewell to one of the sport’s most respected and humble professionals.
