Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the “wounds and pain of centuries are healing today” as he ceremonially hoisted a saffron Dharma flag atop the newly constructed Ram temple in Ayodhya, marking the formal completion of the historic project.
Calling the ceremony the fulfilment of a 500-year-old resolve, the Prime Minister said the flag symbolises the ideals of Lord Ram, representing “the triumph of truth and righteousness.”
PM Modi was joined by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Uttar Pradesh governor Anandiben Patel, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the auspicious Abhijit Muhurat, considered an especially sacred time in Hindu tradition. The 10×20-foot triangular Dharma flag was raised amid chants and prayers attended by devotees.
The saffron flag features a radiant Sun, the sacred ‘Om’, and the Kovidara tree, elements the Prime Minister said reflect awakening, dedication, and centuries of collective effort that led to the temple’s construction.
The ceremony also included special prayers at the sanctum, with PM Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath offering their respects before addressing the gathering. The event marks a significant moment in India’s cultural and religious landscape, drawing devotees and viewers from across the country and around the world.
