The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a Chief Manager of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a major subsidiary of Coal India Limited, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in Sundergarh, Odisha.

The arrest, announced today via an official press release, marks another chapter in the ongoing battle against corruption within India’s critical coal sector.

The incident unfolded when the CBI acted on a complaint from a complainant who alleged that the accused manager demanded Rs 30,000 as a favour for facilitating the release of compensation funds amounting to Rs 11.37 lakh. Following negotiations, the bribe amount was settled at Rs 20,000.

In a meticulously planned sting operation, CBI officials caught the manager red-handed while accepting the bribe, leading to his immediate apprehension. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities promising further updates as the case develops.
